Welcome to Shirland Miners Welfare

Come and Welcome - Hannah & Tom

Shirland Miners Welfare is a long-standing community organisation and social club located at 121–123 Main Road, Shirland, Alfreton, Derbyshire, DE55 6BA.

It serves as a local gathering place, offering social events, affordable drinks, live music and more, and plays a vital role in community life in Shirland and the surrounding area.

🪩 History & Mining Heritage

Shirland was historically a coal mining village, with the local colliery first sunk in the 1860s. Alongside the mine, community amenities were developed to support miners and their families.

The miners’ welfare club on Main Road was originally part of this network of support — providing a social hub for workers and their families when the pit was active. Despite the closure of the pit in 1965, the welfare club still survives today as a centre of village life.
